Launched on April 1, 1960, Tiros 1 was the world’s first successful weather satellite, designed to collect data on Earth’s cloud cover for improved weather predictions. Developed by NASA and other agencies, it marked a major advance in meteorology by allowing global weather monitoring from space. Although its mission lasted only 78 days, Tiros 1 paved the way for future satellites, enhancing weather forecasting, disaster preparedness, and climate research.
